Who are the Middlesbrough Collective?
The Middlesbrough Collective is a group of organisations in Middlesbrough who have a stake in making things better with the people living in Middlesbrough. At the moment we are people from organisations such as Middlesbrough Environment City, Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind, Middlesbrough Council, Change Grow Live, The Hope Foundation, Together Middlesbrough and Cleveland, British Red Cross, Youth Focus North East and Actes (to name a few!)
We aren't a formal partnership, we just believe that we all have a part to play in what is currently being called 'Social Regeneration' in Middlesbrough, and we want to help.
There are a lot of organisations and professionals in Middlesbrough who have significant experience, learning and insight about working with the most vulnerable people. At every meeting and event we all talk about how we could work together better, in partnership with the people living in local communities, to make a bigger difference.
Social Regeneration (maybe we could think of a better name?) is the term being used to by Middlesbrough Council to describe how this could be achieved. This Unconference is a bit of a test, to see what happens if we drop some of the formality and come together as equals. There is no promise of any money and we have not been asked to respond to a request for consultation.
The Unconference is an opportunity for people from all sectors to come together as equals, to share ideas, pose questions or best practice around a particular theme. It is a way to get lots of different people in a room together without a set agenda and without the event being owned by any single organisation.
The organisers have no set plan for the event - except that there will be some tea breaks with biscuits, a hot buffet lunch and good company.
Participants will decide the agenda at the beginning of the day (with the help of a host), by proposing the things that they would like to talk about.
Those topics will form the agenda - different discussions will happen in different break-away rooms. Participants will be able to choose the conversations they would like to be part of on the day. The people who propose particular discussions will lead or kick off those conversations.

You can read people's blogs and thought about the day too here
We held our first Unconference in March this year and it was amazing.
Please watch our video of the day to see what went on and what people thought about it. We'd love it if you share it with people you know.
